It is planned to recruit 8 to 15 mentors from each country, who will be empowered as multipliers to deliver education and training workshops at grassroots levels to farm women in the countries involved. Building Bridges will develop a set of approximately eight course packages including methodologies for the key mentoring women. The course packages will be provided via a Building Bridges e-learning portal and environment in the participating countries, and can be easily adapted to other European countries.

The objective of the first definition and specification phase was to develop a corporate project identity with a logo, templates, and a first web presence spread the word and raise awareness among farm women and stakeholders in the participating countries and across Europe, to develop networks and contacts to users and key players, and to analyze the learning needs of farm women in Europe.

Different approaches were used in the six countries involved, including questionnaires, interviews, communication with the grass roots, key women, representatives from agricultural organizations, and from research in agriculture and regional development. Furthermore, all partners carried out a literature research. These activities enabled the Building Bridges team to identify the trends in the countries involved. Furthermore, large networks have been established, which facilitate dissemination and the recruitment of user-groups in the next phase.

The activities in the first phase now allow the consortium to specify the nature of the web-portal, the contents of the curriculum and of the handbook, and elaborate a detailed work-plan for the following phase.
