About the Project:

Photo of Project discussons. The Building Bridges is a trans national project between Denmark, Germany, Italy, Czech Republic, Slovak and Iceland. Partners that have different but valuable knowledge and experience that they are contributing to the project (Agricultural Universities, Educational Consultants, Coalition for Gender Equality, Business- and Equal rights consultants, Grass Root Organizations of women in agriculture).

The aim of this project is to involve and stimulate farm women who are active in agricultural community to become mentors for other farm women in each participating country. They are receiving training for example in motivational methods for self-empowerment and fostering entrepreneurial; how to organize and manage meetings; how to build up a network of farm women and more all to approach farm women in order to motivate them to empower themselves, either via active participation in the agricultural community or through further education.

There was a survey to determine the needs for education for the farm women aimed increase self-empower and foster entrepreneurial thinking. The results of the needs analysis are used to develop 6-8 different modules that will be adapted to the user group.

The experience of the partners is that the target group needs i.e. modules in how to use eCommerce to market farm produce, how to use the farm for educational purposes, how to gain influence in politics and organization, etc. The mentors will then educate the farm women and approaches them differently depending on the situation in each country: 1) If there is bad internet connection there will be organized small meetings and the teaching based on power point slides and a printed handbook with material of the models. 2) Where the internet connection is good, will the teaching be based on how to use developed web-platform for further education, collaboration and communications between farm women.

The developed web-platform/portal will include tools for i.e.; collaboration, communication and networking to serve the farm women; A set of the training modules and guidelines with a blended e-learning environment to deliver the modules in workshops onsite with local and regional groups; combined with moderated e-learning.

The aim of the project is to help farm women help themselves to improve their social and professional status, gain equal gender rights within the sector, and to help them reverse the factual trend of young women leaving rural areas.  A specific aim is also to help them empower themselves in order to gain more integration into the sectors social infrastructure and be more active in influencing their social and economical environment.

Research has shown that the situation for women in agriculture is that they feel isolated in the rural area, they don’t have equal opportunities to men in the sector and their social status and status as business people is low. The incomes of farming have been getting lower each year and the change of finding new opportunities are difficult in rural areas.
